EWB-HK Exhibition at Times Square Causeway Bay was successfully held during 2 Jan to 4 Jan 2009. The honorable guests, Legco Councillor Ms Audrey Eu, Mr. 何渭枝 from Oxfam Hong Kong, Mr. 簡耀光 from Grace Charity Foundation, Mr. 劉國雄 from Ray of Hope Charity Foundation and Mr. Y C Chow from the Hong Kong Institute of Planners, participated our open ceremony. Through the exhibition at this prominent commercial district, we expected to remind the general public in Hong Kong to continue their concern on post 512 earthquake re-construction works, while to provide continue support to the EWB-HK on re-construction and disaster relief activities.

EWB-HK and SiChuan Academy of Social Sciences are jointly applying the HKSAR Trust Fund in Support of Reconstruction in the Sichuan Earthquake Stricken Areas for the「Sichuan彭州市小魚洞鎮災後重建『農村發展綜合服務中心』建設及中壩村基礎設施修復建設」project.


11th to 14th November 2008, Tuesday to Friday

Representatives from EWB-HK attended and conducted presentations in the International conference "Global Dialogue on Wenchuan Earthquake Response: Challenges and Governance", The conference was organised by The University of Hong Kong (HKU)and the Beijing Normal University (BNU). Experts from the United Nations, Overseas organisations and more than 70 government officials from Gansu, Shanxi and Sichuan provinces also attended the conference.

Representative from EWB-HK attended the「未曾忘記......四川大地震」public talk in Chu Hai College of Higher Education, and then conducted an EWB-HK introductory talk to students and lecturers

To enhance the operational effectiveness, EWB-HK formed 7 new Committees, including (1) Project Committee, (2) Event & Publicity Committee, (3) Student Activity Committee, (4) EWB Membership & HEP Management Committee, (5) Task Force Committee, (6) IT Committee, (7) Auditing Committee. Our Councillor, Ms Maggie Mak, interviewed by RTHK. She introduced the current works of EWB-HK Task Force, and broadcasted inRTHK TV show 《鏗鏘集 - 是天災還是人禍?(下)》on 6/10.

The 1st Exhibition of Engineers Without Borders (Hong Kong) was successfually held on 27-29/9 at China Hong Kong City, Tsim Sha Tsui.

Our 4th EWB-HK Site assessment team completed the trip to SiChuan 青川and小魚洞鎮.


17th August 2008, Monday

Recruitment of volunteers from various professions for several projects in the Mainland China and Hong Kong after our 3 visits to the Sichuan, Gansu and Shanxi provinces. [Details here]

Our 3rd EWB-HK Site assessment team completed the trip and came back Hong Kong.

HEP Training Course jointly organized by Oxfam-HK & EWB-HK.
Objective: To prepare for better equipped professionals in the reconstruction of Sichuan and the future emergency relief projects

16th July 2008, Wednesday

3rd Board of Councillors meeting conducted and went through the findings identified in 2nd site assessment and forthcoming project plans in the Mainland. Representatives from RTHK television also attended the briefing session.


9th July 2008, Wednesday

2nd EWB-HK Site assessment completed the visit in Sichuan, Gansu and Shanxi provinces. Several memorandum of cooperation were signed.


5th July 2008, Saturday

We received the confirmation from Engineers Without Borders – International (EWB-I) today, EWB-HK is accepted as start-up member of EWB-I. EWB-HK is invited to attend the EWB-I global meeting in September in Sweden. The theme of the meeting is “Multinational Collaboration and Action for a Better World”.
